The 15th session of the Right Bank Academy at the Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art featured a lecture by Dutch designer Dr. Jacob de Baan, a Senior Associate Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. Titled “Passionate about Museum Visual Style”, his talk delved into the integrated logic and methodologies behind visual systems. Through case studies of the Van Gogh Museum, the Dutch blue-and-white porcelain brand HEINEN DELFTS BLAUW, and the ceramic manufacturer ROYAL DELFT, he explored how to distill core elements from cultural traditions and transform them into a sustainable modern brand language. Dr. Jacob de Baan emphasized that contemporary design has shifted from single-product design to systemic integration, with the key lying in understanding the genuine needs of the public. He also revealed his current research on pottery unearthed from the Yuchanyan site in Hunan, seeking pathways to transform traditional craftsmanship into modern design.
