Awakening and Shaping — Typography Workshop

Based on the exhibition "The Director's Room: Cai Chusheng" at Suzhou Museum of Contemporary Art, this workshop uses the artistic typography elements in the exhibition as a point of departure, guiding participants from observation to hands-on practice. Through typography and hand drawing, participants explore how text in film becomes a visual language that carries emotion and the memory of an era.

Originating in the 1920s and 1930s, Chinese artistic typography evolved through the fusion of Chinese and Western visual cultures, gradually developing its own distinctive forms of expression. The workshop invited typography researcher Li Zhiqian to lead participants through observation, creation, and practice, allowing them to experience the transformation of text from information conveyance to visual expression, and to discover the spirit of the era and artistic appeal embedded in Chinese artistic typography.
